Selling only because I’m leaving for college. This is an incredibly difficult decision for me, and if I didn’t have to sell her, I wouldn’t. A great home is my top priority, and I will be very picky about where she goes.
Lainey is a safe, kind mare looking for her next home. She is a grade American Quarter Horse, going on 18 years old, and stands around 16 hands tall. She is low maintenance and has been a dependable horse for a variety of riders.
She walks, trots, and lopes, with a naturally faster lope. She has a bit of a mind of her own sometimes, but she’s very willing, patient, and easy to work with. She has both sweet and sassy days, giving her plenty of personality.
She is safe to ride and has never been one to buck, rear, kick, or bite. She is not a spooky horse and is level-headed in new situations. She saddles and bridles well, stands quietly to be tacked up, and does best if she’s cinched slowly. She picks up all four feet well, gets along with other horses, and is generally good for the farrier, though she can get a little nervous.
Lainey has been used for kids’ lessons, summer camps, and parades. She rides well in just a halter and is comfortable riding bareback. She has also been exposed to cattle—I have pushed cattle on her once, and she handled it great. She’s comfortable in the arena, but I think she truly enjoys trail riding and would thrive with someone who likes to get out on the trails.
A few things to note: she could use a little more weight, and I believe she’s due to have her teeth floated. She tends to walk through her stop, so that could use a little tuning up. She also gets nervous when trailering by herself, but she loads and hauls without issue.
Lainey will not be available for pickup or to try until after August 15, as she is currently participating in a kids’ lesson program.
I love this mare so much, and seeing her go will be heartbreaking. My priority is finding someone who will love and care for her as much as I have.
