Basic information: Captive bred ornate wood turtle. Also known as painted or Central American wood turtles. Scientific name is Rhinoclemmys pulcherrima manni. Healthy hatching from last year that was unfortunately born without one eye. Must show proof of proper enclosure. I want it to go to a good home.

More information: These are land based turtles that like a shallow water area. As adults they are a little bigger than a softball. Care is similar to a box turtle but they are NOT box turtles. I keep mine outdoors in the summer and inside during the colder months.

I’m a serious turtle hobbyist and have been keeping this species of turtle for over a decade. They are my favorite by far. Very smart and personable. This one hatched out last year and was unfortunately missing an eye so I kept him to make sure he was healthy. I’ve had him for over a year.

If you buy one from a pet store it’s likely a wild caught turtle from Nicaragua. So please buy captive bred. Don’t support the exploitation of them from the wild.

Must show proof of a proper enclosure and lighting. This is essential. There are two for sale now on KSL if you want to see what happens with improper care.. they are dull and lumpy. They are being sold as “turtles”with a beautiful looking enclosure that is poorly designed for their needs.
