The R6 is is a legendary bike that I have been privileged to have for the past 15k miles and it is the last of the street legal generation R6's. It is a very fun track oriented bike that lives up to the tale. This bike feels like its an angry beaver that always wants to eat things in its way. Its not a liter bike fast, but it will confidently keep up with most of the crowd from 1st gear through 4th gear. With the RPMs reclining just at 16k, it sings like an angel that is climbing out of hell. It has a stereotypical sport bike ride quality that is stiff, but not unbearable for longer 4 to 6hr trips.
This is a track bike that was used on the track. It is a very tactile bike that allows you to feel and power through turns the way you want it to. It has a very controlable throttle with the power band being perfect for track riding. I'd argue it's more fun than a liter bike, as it isn't trying to throw you off the bike any time you accelerate. Unfortunately, it was low-sided at roughly 35mph on a hairpin turn on the track. No cracked cases, frames or excessive damage other than shaved metal and ground down plastic and a broken handlebar and mirror. I have all of the old parts if youre interested to see the extent of it. Fortunately, the color scheme of this bike makes me forget that its even there.
I have been servicing this bike with mostly myself with Royal Purple or Yamalube every 4k miles. The chain is relubricated every 500 miles plus or minus 100 miles. Spark plugs were done at about 15k. The water pump was replaced at 17k with OEM. There is a BMC air filter installed, Vesrah brakes for the front, EBC brakes in the rear, Vortex 15/47 Aluminum sprocket and RX3 chain, Yamaha Slim frame sliders, mirror caps, Tocce slip-on exhaust, and a mostly new Battleaxe S22 rear tire and a slightly used front to match.
