“Newt” has been our go-to horse for most things. From anywhere to chasing cows to leisurely mountain rides, building confidence in new riders, and ponying the young horses. He has no issues crossing water or dead fall or anything else you can find on the mountain but can still please you in the arena. He was trained in western pleasure as a 2 year old and has a nice “rocking horse” lope to show for it. You can rope and drag off of him, and he’s big enough to hold just about anything you can catch. That being said, he has not been roped off consistently to be considered finished in that aspect. He has been used for hunting and does not mind packing game. He gets along with just about anybody, horses included. He’s easy to catch, easy to shoe, and is an easy keeper through the cold.
