Sweet, Quiet Mare Looking for the Right Home

This mare is looking for a home where she can be loved and appreciated for the calm, kind horse she is. She would make a wonderful pasture companion/pet and may be suitable for very light riding.

She is estimated to be around 15 years old based on her teeth. She has a lip tattoo and microchip, although the Jockey Club was unable to determine her identity or registration information.

She recently had her teeth floated on July 7th, and the vet said she looks and sounds healthy. Her feet were trimmed on August 3rd and she is maintained on approximately an 8-week trimming schedule.

• Extremely friendly and easygoing in the pasture. Very easy to catch\

• Not spooky and does well around cars and dogs\
• Very laid-back with a slow, easy pace\
• Enjoys having a pasture buddy and thrives with companionship\
• Would be very happy as a pasture pet/companion\
• My husband had not ridden her for about two years, but was able to get on her last year and walk her around without issue\
• I think she would do ok if you put a kid on her and just lead her around but we do not have children so I'm not going to say for sure how she would do.

Things to Know

We want to be completely transparent about her quirks so she can find the right home.

• She does not like trailering and can be difficult to load and can get very nervous once in. She did load when asked last week but got a little nervous once in but only asked to get out when I asked. She does not like to back out.\
• She can be particular about having her feet trimmed. Our current farrier has figured out what works for her, and she does much better when he keeps her feet trimmed appropriately and takes his time with her. She may test him with her hind feet, but he handles her calmly and she settles down.\
• She responds poorly to people who are aggressive or forceful with her. She needs someone who is patient, calm, and experienced with horses that have had a difficult past. We learned that she had previously been through a kill pen before we purchased her, so we believe some of her behaviors likely stem from past experiences.\
• She can pull back occasionally but we have worked on this and she is doing alot better. Hasn't pulled back in a long time. \
• She is happiest when she has a horse companion and does not do well when kept alone.\
• We believe she may have some occasional soreness in her back or feet. She can be uncomfortable walking on rocky ground. The vet thinks she just needs some chiropractic work done to help her.

Ideal Home

Her ideal home would be somewhere she can have a horse companion, plenty of turnout, and someone who understands that patience and kindness are important with her.

She is not a horse we would recommend for someone looking for a high-energy riding horse or a horse that needs to be hauled frequently. She would be much better suited to someone looking for a pasture companion.
