4½-Year-Old Male Australian Water Dragon + Custom Enclosure

This guy is truly an awesome lizard! I’ve had him his entire life, ever since he was small enough to fit around my finger. He’s a very calm and chill Australian water dragon who tolerates handling extremely well.

His food response is awesome. Drop some crickets in his enclosure and you’ll get to watch him hunt—he absolutely loves his bugs! He’s also very curious and will sit and watch you all day long. He sleeps in his water almost every night and is even potty trained—he uses his water tub to go to the bathroom, which makes cleaning very easy.

I change his water about once a week and feed him bugs 3–4 times a week. He also enjoys greens, although he doesn’t eat them every time.

Custom Enclosure

The enclosure is roughly 5’ x 2.5’ x 4’ and is completely custom-made using foam and ZooPoxy. The whole cage is water proof and will never rot. the front glass panels were professionally made and include locks and won’t scratch. I got a lot of my ideas from Brad’s Bioactive on YouTube.

The water tub is piped through the bottom of the enclosure and has a gate valve for easy draining. I’ve never had any problems with leaking or bad smells as long as the water is changed regularly.

The MistKing system is awesome and puts out a lot of mist. It’s especially useful here in Utah, where the humidity is much lower than what an Australian water dragon naturally experiences.
