This beautiful dimensional artwork was created by Alisa Lariushkina, known professionally as LiskaFlower, in 2020. The piece was commissioned because Van Gogh’s Wheat Field was a favorite work.
The reverse of the actual artwork is handwritten:
“Wheat field Vincent van Gogh”
and marked:
“LiskaFlower 2020”
In addition, I have preserved LiskaFlower’s original 2020 social-media posts featuring this artwork, including photographs of the completed piece. In her own post, the artist identifies the work as “Van Gogh’s Wheat field made of clay” and states that it was handcrafted from air-dry clay.
Her original post also gives the dimensions as 15 × 21 cm (approximately 6 × 8 inches).
Most remarkably, I also have the artist’s original making-of video showing this artwork during its creation. The video documents the painstaking process of individually forming, positioning and shaping the small pieces of clay that make up the sky, clouds, landscape and wheat field.
The craftsmanship is extraordinary. Rather than creating the image on a flat surface, LiskaFlower constructed the scene from countless individually shaped clay elements. Layers of golden wheat fill the foreground, surrounded by rich greens and dark cypress forms, while curls and ribbons of blue, turquoise and white clay create the movement of the sky. The relief gives the artwork substantial depth and texture that photographs cannot completely capture.
The artwork remains in its original light wood-toned frame and has a hanging attachment on the reverse.
LiskaFlower has created another Wheat Field interpretation since this one. Her works are individually handmade, however, and the compositions are not identical. The piece offered here is the 2020 artwork shown in the accompanying original LiskaFlower photographs and documented in her social-media posts and creation footage.
