I’ve had this telescope for 5+ years and have really enjoyed the GoTo function. Just align the scope to two bright stars and then punch in whatever you want to see. I still remember years ago the first night I used this, I punched in Pleiades and BOOM there’s the 7 Sisters staring me down. The computer will then track that object’s position so if you leave your telescope to cook up some mac n cheese and come back, the object is still there.

I really learned my way around the sky with the GoTo function. I even punched in Uranus once, and saw a beautiful eyeful of black nothingness lol. But my great-great-great-great grandfather always used to say the next best thing to seeing Uranus is seeing the big black empty space where you could see Uranus if you were at a dark sky location had a huge scope (preferably the size of the Greenwich Royal Observatory).

The GoTo is also really nice because if you’re just scanning the sky and stumble onto something interesting, you can hit the Identify button, annd the computer will tell you what it is, based on its position. I remember one time stumbling across a beautiful double star (one blue and one gold) and the computer told me it was Albireo, which is in the constellation Cygnus. Albireo is still to this day one of my favorite things to show people. They usually gasp at the striking color difference. Speaking of double stars, if you want to blow somebody’s mind, tell the computer to go to Mizar (or Alcor), and it’ll take you to the double star in the handle of the Big Dipper. Yes! Little did they know that all these years whenever they looked at the Big Dipper, they were looking at a double star (which is actually a double-double star). There’s even a double star catalog to make it really easy to find them. Just press the Stars button, then scroll down to double stars, then scroll away and go to whichever one you want. I once spent two hours just hopping from double star to double star. But I digress.
