Vintage 1974 portrait bust of Joseph Smith by noted Utah sculptor Karl Quilter. This distinctive collectible features Quilter’s signature and the year 1974 engraved on the back, adding to its authenticity and historical interest. The stunning sculpture displays well and is in good vintage condition with minor surface wear consistent with age. A fine crack is present at the back of the neck and is not visible when viewed from the front. The area may have been repaired by a previous owner.

Own a piece of Church History. Karl Quilter worked on a portrait bust of Joseph Smith, a project noted in his biographical records and obituaries as a memorable artistic endeavor in which he spoke extensively about the church founder's life. A devoted seminary instructor and speaker, he loved the youth and was passionate about teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Karl Quilter is the sculptor of many works throughout the world, but is best known for sculpting the Angel Moroni donning the spires of all but a few of the LDS temples. He served a mission sculpting a larger-than-life-size nativity seen outside most LDS Temples at Christmas time. Karl Quilter sculpted his first Angel Moroni in 1978. Quilter's Angel Moroni is now on over 100 temples worldwide. He was schooled at the Salt Lake Art Center and the University of Utah, where he received degrees in Sculpture and Industrial Design under the tutelage of Dr. Avard Fairbanks. Karl’s more popular works include the angels, nativity sculptures, and oxen for the LDS temples.
