Rehoming a Rhodesian ridgeback in southern Utah (rare in us )female dog

Are you looking for a companion that’s always aware of her surroundings? One that notices when someone walks through the parking lot, hears every sound outside your fence , and is happiest simply being by your side?

I’m fostering a beautiful 14-month-old female Rhodesian ridgeback from South Africa

and I believe her perfect home has a yard. This breed can run up to 42 mph !

She wants to be with her person all the time. She loves car rides with her nose out the window, hiking, swimming, exploring trails, camping, and being outside. If you’re active, she’ll happily join you. If your lazy she’ll happily sleep by you

She forms a deep bond with her person and is naturally alert to what’s going on around her. She’s always paying attention and loves having a job even if that job is simply staying close to you. However the breed was for taking down lions and hogs. So here in America they will focus on other dogs as a target but it’s not aggressive it’s curious. I’ve been working with recall on her walks.

• House-trained

• Eats twice a day

• Never counter-surfs

• Knows “sit”

• Sleeps in couch and bed and sometimes crate with the door open( she can be left in crate only a couple hours ) gets anxiety

• Loves the outdoors and adventures

• Athletic, lean, and energetic

And a lover

She Needs the Right Home

This is not a beginner’s dog.

She needs someone experienced with large guardian breeds who understands structure, patience, and consistency.

• Best as the only pet

• Reactive toward other dogs and should not live with a closed apartment complex or constant run ins with large dogs. Unless you want to keep your shoulder in tact

• Can be uncomfortable around unfamiliar people and may react to people wearing sunglasses

• Doesn’t really care about chasing balls she’d rather be exploring with you running. Zoomies. Hiking digging night hunting with flash lights. ! Bird watching. Bunny chasing !

• Must always remain on a leash or in a securely fenced area, as she may run if allowed off leash

• Needs daily exercise, mental stimulation, and companionship

Her previous owner was an older woman whose declining health made it difficult to care for such a strong, energetic dog. During my time fostering her, my goal hasn’t been to push her through intensive training. She had just been separated from the only home she knew, so I’ve focused on helping her feel safe, loved, and secure while I search for the right forever home.

I only foster for about 30 days, and I want to make sure this special girl finds someone who truly understands her.
