ZelleMaverick is a loving and playful 1 year old male (neutered) Golden Retriever who we recently adopted. We were told he is a Standard Golden Retriever but are now guessing he is a Field Golden Retriever due to his extremely high energy levels. Because of this, we are anticipating our apartment will not be suitable enough for him and want to give him to the right owners asap.
He is a very smart and trainable dog who knows sit, paw, down, and sleeps all night in his crate.
In our apartment, he is great - he doesn't bark and listens to us so well. He does not jump on furniture unless invited and never jumps on any counters. He really loves attention and head scratches and is content even if he is just leaning against you. When he isn’t getting attention he entertains himself with his rope and tennis balls!
We notice that outside on walks he will bark at other dogs and we believe this is reactivity due to his very high energy levels, we would love to share all of the research we have done and work with you on figuring him out! For this reason, we believe he would do best in a home with a fenced in yard or someplace that he can get all of his energy out which we believe contributes to his behavior overall…he gets frustrated if he has too much energy and can’t expel it (and obviously that is not his fault). He is such a sweet dog and we really want to find the best home for him which we think is with people who may have experience with his breed type or someone who has the time to learn and understand him. We really think it is best to re-home him instead of bringing him back to the rescue because we want to make sure he goes to the right people.
