VenmoRed fronted Kakariki. DNA male. Currently hand feeding. Born first week of January. He’s about six weeks old. They usually wean between 8-10 weeks old. He’ll be available once he’s weaned.
He’s already very cuddly and enjoys hanging out with me. He was just moved into a cage and immediately began exploring. You can see him trying to scratch the ground. His instincts helping him look around! The last male I raised said ‘what ya doin?’ Around 3 months old. He should talk if you’re patient and work with him.
He’s a Lutino pied. All yellow with a green spot next to his right eye. Red above his back and behind both eyes. He has a few red/dark featherings but mostly yellow! In the wild in New Zealand, their natural color is a beautiful dark green.
He’s begun nibbling on millet and sprouted sunflower seeds. He’ll be weaned to a mix of millet, safflower and sunflower. And, conure and large parrot mix that includes pellets of various sizes, nuts and dehydrated fruits. And of course fresh veggies and fruits. So, he should be open to most foods when he comes to live with you!
Kakarikis enjoy foraging and scratch around for what they want to eat. Once they find something, they’ll take it to a branch to perch and eat. It’s a funny sight to see how long their legs are while they hold their food. They’re fairly active. If you watch YouTube videos, they practically walk on the sides and top of their cages without issues. This is how his parents behave.
Fairly quiet little birds making ‘raaaattttaatttaaaat’, ‘beep beep’ type sounds. No screeching or screaming like conures. But, that doesn’t mean you should not research. Look them up.
