I am retiring soon decided to retire my Lionel train collection too. Decided to give KSL a try as I really dislike shipping.
Up for sale is a Prewar Lionel 251E locomotive with a Pendulum style 2 position reverse unit circa 1928-1932. There is a slide switch on the side of the locomotive that deactivates the reverse unit and essentially locks the motor in one direction. The set comes with two coaches (605’s) and one (606) observation passenger cars. The cars are equipped with pickups for lighting and may need wiring and new bulbs to function properly.
The locomotive ran when tested with leads from my transformer, it did reverse and the headlamps lit in the direction the wheels turned. Surprising since these pendulum units often need a bit of “warming up” after sitting for long periods of time. These are getting harder to find. This has various scratches, spots of paint splatter, dings etc.. mostly original I am sure the wheels have been replaced as well as maybe the headlight housings, they tend to get zinc rot. Overall a nice display set or a set for restoration or a layout runner with a bit of maintenance.
Asking $325 or best offer located in Farmington, Utah. Cash only on pickup, questions welcome, Trevor
