The number on eggs are the installation dates. Hatch is usually 21 days later for chickens
Many people rent for 1 month and hatch on days 21, 24 & 28 (96 eggs each hatch)
Or every 2 days, 48 eggs each hatch
Silkies and Cochins make great mother hens and are fun to watch their amazing automatic abilities.
You can drop eggs about to hatch under a setting broody hen.
If a hen starts setting after the first batch enters the Incubator, we often share about 10 eggs on day 19 from the incubator. That is when turning stops and the hen starts conversations by talking to the chicks.
A hen often stops setting on day 25-30; her brooding cycle runs out automatically usually.
An incubation start number written with pencil help know which eggs are from the incubator so you can remove any freshly laid eggs.
Feshly laid eggs from a nest are safe to eat.
