ApplePayA likkle story: Mino Denti was a pro in the 1960s, a domestique for Faema for E.Merckx, won the Tour de l'Avenir in 1966. He went home to Brescia and started building frames by hand under his own name, learning the craft from Italian masters. He built some road bikes, and allegedly built five track frames. This is one of them.
Tubing: Gilco crimped Columbus, an experimental project Colnago had developed for race bikes, this batch was deemed ”too stiff for road racing” by the test team. Colnago sold the remaining stock of this batch to Denti. He used it to build these five track frames. The tubes have a star-like crimping similar to the Colnago Master. The stiffness wild, zero flex—ever! Amazing to ride.
Two of Denti's track frames reportedly ended up in Los Angeles. This one was found by Sky at VeloCult and sold it to me only because I would respect it (tsss!). There was a yellow one floating around LA but it seemed to have vanished (probably London).
The frame has no stamps, no decals, no branding of any kind. It never did. The Gippiemme dropouts are correct for the era. The geometry is pure Italian track: upright, purposeful, and stiff as fk.
The build (is very 2006): Velocity Deep V wheels in gold with brake track (frame is not drilled for brakes). Nitto Jaguar Pro stem, 90mm. Nitto B123 steel bars, 38cm. Campagnolo headset (my favest part). Phil wood bb. Sugino 75 cranks with a 48t Sugino Zen chainring. 3TTT fluted seatpost with black inlays. EAI 17t cog. KMC chain. MKS pedals with SOMA double straps. The white leather handlebar grips and the top tube protector were hand-made and laced from leather purchased in Tokyo.
The honest bits: The paint is powder coated white, done with good intentions to protect the frame until a proper restoration could happen. It’s great from far but far from great. The frame could be blasted and properly repainted and would be bananas. The seatpost collar was over-tightened by a previous owner and required a creative fix to clamp normally. It works with a chainring bolt, but someone mechanically inclined could correct it properly and permanently. The stem has a scuff by the bolt from a bump at the track.
The frame is true. The ride is goooood. Everything functions.
Size: 58-59cm depending on how you measure. Built for tall humans.
Price: $950. Text is best. Local pickup only. No chipping.
This bike deserves to be ridden. It’s a gem.
