ZelleOslo/Ozzie is a 15.2hh, 4 year old Friesian/Morgan cross gelding looking for his forever home. We rescued him from the Bowie Texas Livestock auction the day before he was set to go to slaughter. He went same day to Sacred Acres in Springtown, Texas for a full 30 day quarantine.
During quarantine, Ozzie was seen by a vet, fully vaccinated, wormed, and had 10 x rays taken. He was given a clean bill of health and cleared for a long life of riding. All x rays and the vet's contact information are available to serious inquiries. He was also seen by a farrier. He lifts all four feet well with zero issues. He did have some bruising on one hoof from ill fitting shoes, so all shoes have been pulled and that hoof is recovering nicely.
Ozzie came to us underweight. He is gaining steadily on a quality high fat grain, barley, salt, and plenty of hay. He eats well and is putting weight on consistently. He is still thin and needs someone who will commit to continuing his rehab and nutritional recovery.
Background wise, Ozzie was an Amish cart horse, so he is trained to drive. His work ethic is solid and he definitely has a motor. He trailers extremely well, does not kick, does not bite, and travels like a pro. He leads back to his dry lot from pasture beautifully, even without a lead rope. He is currently a bit tough to catch with a halter, but he has only been at our place about a week and is still adjusting to a new environment. We expect that to improve with time and trust.
Temperament wise, Ozzie is a sweet, gentle soul. Soft eye, loves a good head scratch, and genuinely wants to connect with people. He just needs patience and consistency.
We are not looking to make money on Ozzie. We have roughly $6,000 into him between the rescue, quarantine, vet work, farrier, feed, and transport from Texas to Idaho. Our goal is to rescue one to two horses a year and find them real forever homes. An adoption in Texas fell through, so we trailered him up to us in Idaho.
What we are looking for is a home that will invest in his health, his mind, and give him the time he needs. Someone with the patience and experience to continue his rehabilitation and bring out the best in him. PPE is welcome. All vet records from our end will be shared completely and transparently.
Rehoming fee applies. Serious inquiries only.
