Hate to do it but I am selling my Renovo gravel bike (John Day Whiskey Jack model) with XL frame (I am 6’3”). It is in immaculate condition and an absolute joy to ride. This bike adsorbs bumpy conditions with ease. It is also light weight at 24.6 lbs on my digital scale. (random comparison - current Specialized Sirrus X carbon is 21.9 lbs)
The bike frame is constructed using a mix of hardwoods. Each Renovo frame is unique. Mine was fabricated using walnut and hickory as the primary material and bubinga, a red African hardwood, thinly layered between the larger hickory & walnut sections resulting in a bike that is both functional and beautiful.
With state-of-the-art adhesives, finishes and manufacturing techniques, Renovo frames are incredibly durable. Wood is the easiest, least expensive material to repair should you ever need to. Wood is also one of the most fatigue resistant materials on earth with a remarkable fatigue life that exceeds steel and aluminum and rivals carbon.
Renovo avoids warping or cracking which can occur if wood is not properly cured. All wood for Renovo frames spends months in temp/humidity controlled storage. Curved parts are bent, and then baked in a kiln to fix the shape forever. Finish coating includes at least three layers of automotive clear coat - not unlike a high end sports car.
Maintenance is no different than any painted bike. A quick fix for deep scratches is clear nail polish. A more thorough repair is simple and unlikely to require a pro. Should any major repairs be required, you can send your frame the manufacturer for full service.
Testimonials from the Renovo website:
"...the bike is just damned fast. If I get out of the saddle, the bike just GOES NOW in a big way. No frame flex, just power. I don't know if it's the wood, the geometry, the tires or a combination, but it's just a joy to ride. The John Day (Whiskey Jack) feels smooth, fast and solid, planted to the pavement in a way different from every other bike I've ridden." Larry S.”
“My first season riding the Renovo and never an issue. Plenty of daily rides (over 3500 miles this summer) to compare with: Look 695, Ridley Noah, Willier Cento Uno and Blue AC1 SL... For long rides the Renovo is the most comfortable bike hands down. For frame integrity and power transfer the Look is its only equal. But I believe that's due to the Look's 65mm integrated bottom bracket. Nothing on the road is as beautiful. Absolute eye candy in every detail. Love it!! Greg Alspach
