You can record immediately or you can schedule programs to record. 1 TB of storage. It is also called an "Over the Air DVR". I just set it up and then deregistered it so that someone else can set it up new. You download the Fire TV Recast app and once it is all plugged in the app will tell you how to set it up. There are also Youtube Setup Videos. For example you might want to watch the above pictured video. After first downloading the Fire TV Recast app in the other picture. You can just type in TV Recast to find the videos.
