Some horses come into your life and teach you how to ride. Others help shape who you become. Missy has been that pony for our daughter. She came into our lives at the perfect time and now she is ready to do the same for another family.
Because of what she has meant to us, we will be extremely selective about the home she goes to. We aren't looking for just a buyer, we're looking for the next little cowboy or cowgirl whose confidence, skills, and love of horses will grow because of this special mare.
Missy is a 13.2 hand mare pony, approximately 15–16 years old, and she is the definition of "been there, done that." Nothing phases her. Throughout her life she has safely carried countless young riders and has worn many hats along the way. She has been a lesson horse for beginner riders, participated in parades, spent countless hours on the trails, carried flags at rodeos, run barrel and pole patterns, done some roping work, and most recently has been a trusted goat horse in junior rodeo. She would also make an outstanding 4-H pony and has the experience and versatility to help a young rider succeed in a variety of events.
What makes Missy truly special isn't just what she's done, it's how she does it.
She is honest. She is forgiving. She is patient.
She will go as slow or as fast as a child asks her to. But one of the things we have appreciated most is that she has quietly taught correct riding. She won't simply run a pattern on autopilot. If a rider asks incorrectly, she'll do exactly what they're asking. If they ride well, she rewards them. She has helped my daughter become a better horsewoman, and there simply aren't enough words to describe what that gift has meant to us.
Missy knows her leads exceptionally well, neck reins, and can be ridden either single-handed or double-handed. She has the kind of foundation that allows young riders to learn and progress while giving more experienced kids a pony they can continue to grow with.
Missy is sound, easy to keep, loads and hauls beautifully, stands well for the farrier (who absolutely adores her), and gets along with other horses while still holding her own in the herd. She's also sweeter than most ponies you'll meet.
The only management requirement is that she must stay on pure grass hay. Her one little quirk is that she does not like being tied while her cinch is being tightened. Other than that, she's about as uncomplicated as they come.
If you're looking for a pony that can win your child's heart, build their confidence, and safely help them learn the right way to ride, Missy may be exactly what you're searching for.
Please understand that finding the right home is far more important to us than making a quick sale. We owe that to a pony who has given so much to our family, and we hope to find a family who will love her just as much as we have.
We have other videos we can share.
