ApplePayPreserve a Piece of American History – Rare Mountain Cur Bloodlines
Looking for a proven, high-quality sire. We are offering stud services from our two exceptional male Mountain Curs.
About the Breed & Rarity
The Mountain Cur is a distinctly American breed with deep roots in the Appalachian frontier. Developed by early settlers as versatile, all-purpose dogs for hunting, guarding, and farm work, they nearly disappeared mid-20th century due to rural-to-urban shifts. Thanks to dedicated preservation efforts starting in the 1950s (OMCBA founders and others), the breed was saved and officially recognized by the UKC in 1998. Today, they remain relatively rare compared to mainstream breeds — not commonly seen outside working and hunting circles, making quality, registered lines especially valuable for those wanting to contribute to the breed’s future.
Strong, athletic builds with classic Mountain Cur traits: intelligence, courage, loyalty, and exceptional treeing/hunting ability.
• Excellent temperaments — loyal family protectors who are biddable and great with known people.
