Meet Grumpy — the tiny dog with a big opinion and an even bigger heart (once you earn it).
Grumpy (born 11/2021) is a Chihuahua who didn’t get the kind of start in life that teaches a dog to trust easily. Because of that, he comes across exactly how his name suggests… a little grumpy, a little suspicious, and very selective about his people. But underneath that tough little exterior is a dog who wants to bond—he just needs someone patient enough to show him the world isn’t so scary anymore. He is weighing in right at 11 pounds.
**Rescued from a high-kill shelter where he was scheduled for euthanasia, Grumpy is now getting his second chance—but he’s looking for the right person, not just any person.**Grumpy isn’t the type to run up and shower you with kisses on day one. In fact, he’ll probably keep his distance and give you “the look.” But if you give him space, move slowly, and let him come to you on his own terms, something really special happens—he chooses you. And when he does, his loyalty is unmatched. He becomes your little shadow, your quiet companion, your fiercely devoted best friend.
His ideal home would be with a retired person or a calm couple who understands that trust takes time. A low-traffic, quiet environment is key, and a home without young children will help him feel safe and secure. He would actually love to go do things, once he has made that connection with his person.
At his foster home, we’ve already seen just how deeply he can bond. He gets so excited to be near his person that his foster has to literally freeze and stay quiet just so he’ll go outside—otherwise he’d rather stay close to her than miss a moment. That attachment is there… it just grows at his own pace.
Grumpy isn’t for everyone—and that’s okay. He’s for his person. The one who sees past the grumble and understands that the best relationships are the ones you earn.
If you’re the kind of person who believes in giving the “underdog” a real chance… Grumpy just might be your new best friend.
Grumpy's adoption donation is $150, which includes his neuter, vaccines, and microchip.
