PayPalThe momma is a 3 year old, British White. This is her second calf. The bull calf’s sire is an Angus bull.
The calf is currently on a bottle. He somehow got part of the outside of his right rear hoof wall torn loose. He’s been to the vet and got doctored up, hoof trimmed, iodine-gauze wrap, antibiotic shot, etc. Vet says it’ll heal up fine. He still favors it a little, but it doesn’t bother him much.
He drank 4 quarts of colostrum, from a local dairy, and two at the vet in the first 24 hours so he's in great shape that way. He's been on a bottle since. (Born the afternoon of June 30 and today is July 3).
His momma is taking care of him, but I’ve been unable to get him to nurse off her. Probably a more skilled cow person could do it, but not me. I’ve milked out both front teats and one of the back ones every 12 hours while he's on the bottle. Momma is still producing milk. She’s a very gentle cow as most British White's are. The injury, and him being on a bottle, just makes it cheaper for you.
They’ve gotta go as a pair.
