VenmoThis is The Free Number 5 sewing machine. Made between 1905-1915 in Rockford, Illinois. The Free sewing machine features the unique Rotoscillo mechanism which operates the movement of the vibrating shuttle.
It has beautiful peacock decals that are in great condition. The cabinet has been lightly refinished and has three coats of polyurethane coating to protect the wood.
The treadle base uses the top lid as a counterweight for the sewing machine. This acts as an automatic lift for the machine. When you open the lid, the machine lifts by itself out of the cabinet. The reverse also occurs when you close the lid, the machine tucks back into the cabinet by itself.
Another fun feature is the automatic locks for the cabinet drawers. When the machine is hidden and the lid is closed, the drawers lock and cannot be opened--a great baby proofing device. As soon as you open the lid, the drawers unlock.
The sewing machine itself is an all metal sewing machine with a cast iron housing. Virtually indestructible and with regular oiling and cleaning will last another 111 years.
Luckily shuttles and long bobbins are interchangeable with Singer Vibrating Shuttle machines and new ones are available online. It also takes modern 15x1 regular sewing machine needles.

Needle bar, presser foot bar, feed dogs, tension assembly, long bobbin winder, vibration shuttle cradle, balance wheel, clutch, take up lever, tension release all disassembled, cleaned reassembled and oiled. All other metal parts cleaned in place and oiled. New needle, new spool pin felt, and new treadle belt installed.
Iron treadle base has also been cleaned and oiled and treadles smoothly.
Comes with original manual, digital manual, two long bobbins, one shuttle, original presser foot tin with a complete set of presser feet.
