Very cool vintage 1951 Union Pacific Pony Express Route pictorial map, showing the historic Pony Express route from St. Joseph, Missouri to Sacramento, California.
Titled “Pony Express Route – April 3, 1860 to October 24, 1861,” the map identifies individual Pony Express stations and features colorful illustrations of famous Western landmarks and scenes, including the Great Salt Lake, Fort Laramie, Chimney Rock, Fort Kearny, the Sierra Nevada, Fort Sutter and more.
The artwork is associated with famed American West photographer and artist William Henry Jackson, with historical text by Howard R. Driggs. This version was produced with the cooperation of the Union Pacific Railroad around 1951.
⭐ POTENTIAL COLLECTOR VALUE
This isn’t a modern reproduction. Examples of this vintage Union Pacific map are held by major institutional collections, including the Library of Congress, and specialist antique-map dealers have offered examples for several hundred dollars.
Dealer asking prices don’t necessarily represent actual market value, so I’m not claiming this one is worth hundreds—but there is definitely potential value here for someone who collects antique/vintage maps, railroad memorabilia, Pony Express history or Western Americana.
Condition is very nice overall for its age. Please see photos for exact condition.
