The Canon EOS Rebel X is a lightweight 35mm auto/manual focus SLR film camera released in 1993 as a streamlined, flash-free variant of the popular EOS Rebel XS / Kiss line. Lack of a built-in flash is why I included the Achiever flash -- a vintage flash designed for 80's and 90's film cameras -- which offers TTL exposure performance like the built-in flash would with power and performance versatility that the built-in wouldn't. Has Multiple Exposure capability, motorized film advance up to 3 fps.

I've decided to finally get rid of most of my old collection of film cameras and various accessories. I bought this body probably a dozen years ago and have never actually put a roll of film through it. Too much equipment and too little time! I have used the lens on another camera. The camera seems to work fine. By "fine" I mean the shutter, the film advance motor and auto-focus work and the exposure system is appropriately responsive to variations of light. Of course, just because the shutter and metering systems respond to changing light doesn't mean the accuracy of those systems are up to factory spec. I would be surprised if that were true for any camera more than a few years old. But minor deviations -- especially with print film -- might not be noticeable or can be compensated for through the Exposure Compensation feature. It has many features so I haven't tested beyond the basic functions. I strongly recommend downloading a free user guide. One basic function I can't test without film is the actual film advance mechanism, but the advance motor actuates every time I fire the shutter so I'm fairly confident in that function. I have no intention of film testing. Not worth the trouble and expense to me. Batteries are included.

Physical condition is practically like new. The viewfinder is mostly clean. The lens is in good condition but has a few little fungus spots not visible in the viewfinder.

Check out the "Sold" listings on ebay for this camera -- most of which are not film-tested either, or include a TTL-capable flash --and I think you'll agree that this asking price is pretty fair. The average "Sold" price (factoring in any shipping charge) on a one-page sampling was $53.26, $26.57 for just the body. So buy local and save!

AF System: TTL phase detection. AF modes: One-Shot AF and AI Servo AF (automatic switchover). Multi-BASIS (automatic selection of 3 focusing points) for the AF sensor. Center focusing point selectable manually with AE lock button. AF operating range at ISO 100: EV 1.5 – 18.

Shutter: Vertical-travel, focal-plane electronic shutter. 30 sec. – 1/2000 sec., B. X-sync at 1/90 sec. (hot shoe). Built-in electronic self-timer (with beeper).

Viewfinder: Fixed eye-level roof mirror. 0.7x magnification and 90% coverage.

Metering & Exposure Control: Composite SPC for TTL full-aperture metering (6-zone evaluative, 9.5% partial at center, and center-weighted averaging) with shutter speed-priority AE, aperture-priority AE, Intelligent program AE, depth-of-field AE, and four program AE modes. Exposure compensation range of ±2 EV (in 1/2-stop increments). Metering range at ISO 100 and f/1.4: EV 2 – 20. Film speed range: ISO 6 to 6400 (with DX code). Maximum 9 multiple exposures.

External LCD: Shutter speed, aperture setting, film speed, multiple exposure count, self-timer display, film status, exposure display, battery check, and other indications.

Power Source: Two 3 V CR123A lithium batteries

Film Loading & Advance: Align film leader at mark, then close the camera back for prewind loading. First, the entire roll is wound on the take-up spool. Then each time a picture is taken, the film advances back into the cartridge. Film transport with the built-in motor. Film advance speed: 3 fps and single advance. After the last frame is exposed, the film is rewound automatically. Midroll rewind enabled.

Flash:

Basics: Power Source: Uses 4 AA batteries (alkaline or NiMH).

Auto Focus Assist: The built-in AF infrared/lamp illuminator assists the camera in low light up to roughly 3 to 5 meters.

Bounce Head: The flash head tilts (adjusting to bounce angles like 30°, 45°, 60°, and 90°) to soften lighting off ceilings or walls.Zoom Head: Manually adjust the zoom head coverage to match your lens focal length (typically ranging from 28mm to 85mm).

Auto Power Off: The unit conserves battery life by shutting down automatically after a period of non-use.

Will work with some early DSLR's but only in manual mode -- no TTL.
